Unlocking finance for NbS in Indian Cities

India’s urban population is projected to nearly double to 951 million by 2050, intensifying exposure to flooding, heat stress and water scarcity. Despite growing policy recognition, financing for urban nature-based solutions (NbS) remains heavily dependent on public sources, with limited private sector participation. Published by the India Forum for NbS in collaboration with Climate Policy Initiative, WRI India and CEEW, this guidebook presents a three-step framework to assess policy and regulatory readiness, identify financial and business mechanisms, and strengthen project bankability. Supported by nine global and Indian case studies, it offers actionable pathways to mainstream and scale urban NbS financing across Indian cities.
